Why Your Business Should Blog
Why Your Business Should Blog: Social media includes various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, Pinterest, and Google+ to name a few, but also, as blogging sites, video, and even email marketing. Yet, too many business owners, just mentioning that they need social media marketing, are envisioning in their mind someone posting on Facebook…maybe…Twitter. That’s it! And they will just assign a 20-30-year-old employee who has no digital marketing experience and who feels it is “easy” for them (and fun!), they assume all is well! That is further from the truth than you can imagine! Nowhere was blogging for their business given a thought!
Too often, businesses will opt-in to the idea of having a Facebook and maybe a Twitter account promoting them. Yet, they fail to recognize that the Blog is the “Golden Egg” for providing great information for their potential customers and that potential sales! This wealth of information is what makes the business the customer’s go-to place or for them to see the business as an expert that can solve their problem! Without the blog, the website can be rather static and uninteresting (not much different than a bulletin board) to both the reader and the “Google-Spiders or Bots”. If no eyes see the website, no one buys! What you thought was a good website – is for nothing.
Websites need to have a BLOG as their best friend! The two must be inseparable. Without one the other is very lonely! How lonely is your website? There is a tool out there that can measure just how lost in a crowd your website might be. It is Alexa.com. Place your website URL in the search box. An Alexa ranking is a ranking of how effective and how popular the website is. Google is ranked as #2 and Facebook is ranked, can you believe it(?), as #1! Twitter as #12! Snob Monkey #1,142,582! YOU? #??????????? Ok, so what would be a great rank to have? Anything as close to #1 as possible! But a ranking under 6,000,000 would be a great start if you are a local business. If you are not even showing up, you have some work to do. Get your BLOG going!
“Blogs were found to be the third-most influential digital resource (31%) when making overall purchases, only behind retail sites (56%) and brand sites (34%). In fact, blogs were found to be the fifth-most trustworthy source overall for information on the internet. YouTube, Facebook and Google+ are the most popular social properties for consumers.” (TechnoratiMedia Digital Report 2013, pg 13)
This is where your customers are going online! To the blogs! When your blog is optimized with keywords, links, meta-tags and social connections, you are creating a digital “buzz” opportunity! Bots will be attracted to the site and recognize it as a valuable resource and promote it in Google searches! Google is where people are typing in those keywords that pertain to their interests in purchasing.
Also, note that the content that is blogged about is posted on Facebook and Twitter in order to get the content to go viral. Linkedin and YouTube come in as a close 3rd and 4th optional places to post their blogs on social media. Pushing and pulling your audience to and from various social media to finally come to rest within your website’s landing page is your ultimate goal. Without a BLOG you will just be lost, and NOT “standing out” in the crowd, and not being “found” as the go-to business that will solve that customer’s problem.
I also realize that there will be other excuses for not having a blog.
- I don’t have time.
- I don’t like to write.
- I don’t have anything to say or don’t know what to write about.
- I just don’t know how.
Each of these can be eliminated with practice or outsourced to a reputable copywriter that will portray you in your best light through your blog. I am sure to bet that the copywriter knows how to “blog” for you. Hint (snob monkey ;). Don’t feel that you have to have the best marketing sales sheet as your blog either. This is the time that you portray yourself as friendly, helpful, informative and reaching out to help your audience – SOLVE THEIR PROBLEM!
Why do you want a blog? To be seen, heard and found; to be partnered with social media; to be KNOWN, LIKED and then TRUSTED; and to be influential in the purchasing decisions of your customers. That is where the relationship leads to a great ongoing friendship and the sales are made. THAT is why you want to BLOG.
