Don’t Fall For These Common SEO Mistakes
Getting the SEO on your website is important. But what are the common mistakes when it comes to SEO? How do you avoid it? It is sometimes very easy to use these SEO common mistakes, but it can have a little or huge impact on your ranking. Here is all you need to know.
SEO Common Mistakes:
Cloaking:
Cloaking is a technique that allows people to set up a site in a way that allows search engine crawlers to see things differently than what users see. This means that even though your website should be for your target audience you are building it for different search engines. However, as the engine’s technology is getting more sophisticated, it is becoming less likely you can get away when doing this.
Excessive Usage of Focus Keyword:
Adding your chosen keywords to your content does help with your SEO ranking, but when you overuse your keywords, it can have a negative effect. Overusing or using your keywords within your content excessively can lower your SEO score on your web page or blog post. This is because you have over-optimised that keyword. This is only related to the ‘focus keyword/keyphrase’ you have chosen for your web page or blog post.
To stop this from happening, make sure you put the focus keyword in sentences that are relevant to the content instead of writing content so sentences include the keyword.
Link Schemes:
Trying to create backlinks to your site is a good way to boost your SEO ranking. But there are schemes that are currently out there that allow people to do it excessively. Buying links or spamming blogs (within the comments) are two ways that can hinder your SEO ranking.
Piracy:
Stolen content/duplicate content could include different variations of content you can put on your website. This could include taking content from other sites or using copyright-violating downloads of music or videos on your website.
Duplicate content makes it difficult for search engines to sort which post is more relevant when they compare the two. This will have a negative not just on your SEO ranking, but also on the SEO ranking of the person’s website you have copied content from.
If Google notices that your website contains duplicate content, you can be penalised. Google is now becoming stricter when it comes to duplicate content as it is becoming an issue. If you do become penalised by Google, your site can be reassigned to a new rank. For example, if you were ranked at 10 when people searched ‘digital marketing and are penalised, Google will put you back within the search result pages so you aren’t seen by your target audience.

Too Many Ads:
Having a website that is very ad-heavy can affect your SEO but also can affect your UX (user experience). Ad-heavy can affect both of these due to being annoying to the person viewing the website. Another way having ads on your website can affect both is for them to be pop-up ads that can block most or all of the page.
Intrusive interstitials are bad for user experience as they can affect the whole website across the different platforms people view the website. This can be on desktop, mobile or tablet versions of the website that can be affected by them.
