Congratulations on your newest release, St Tropez. How excited are you for your fans to listen to your latest single?
Jay: Thank you! I’m super excited for everyone that supports us to hear our new single! I feel like our last release was so long ago because we’re constantly making new material for our fans that we have in the locker and its a dope feeling to be able to share another single with everyone. The video is definitely one of our best videos to date as well, I’m so excited to give everyone that experience to match the audio to the visuals!
Monts: We’re gassed for this release man, the anticipation has been crazy behind the scenes as we’ve been working our asses off to give our supporters what they deserve! Our supporters mean everything to us for real, they keep showing love so we keep creating content for them to enjoy!
In the previous interview, you mentioned how your songs are based on feelings. What sort of feelings was behind St Tropez when you were writing it?
Monts: Ahh St Tropez, this song man, the feeling is so hard to explain but you know when you can sometimes feel a stagnancy within yourself or maybe the work that you’re doing. St Tropez is literally the feeling of getting yourself away and opening up to a clear space clear mind amazing views and just full-on clarity.
Jay: When writing it we wanted to still make the lyrics relatable to ourselves and our surroundings but wanted to include that feeling of escape within the melody production and especially the visual! We literally can’t wait for you guys to experience it that St Tropez feeling!
Have you ever been to St Tropez besides shooting your music video?
Jay: Nah I don’t think I have ever been to France let alone St Tropez! Aha, it was definitely a to-go place on my list and I’m happy I was able to start off going by creating this piece of work there. We had some spare time to visit and act like a tourist which was dope and its such an amazing place.
Monts: I’ve been to France 3 times you know, twice when I was younger and once to Disney land two years ago, but I’ve never been to the South of France. Going there was a game-changer for me I think it really shows off the beauty of France.
Before shooting the music video, did you have an idea of what would be happening in it?
Jay: To be honest the only thing we were thinking of was, “we have to shoot in St Tropez” we didn’t know what or how it was going to go but we knew it had to be in that location. It was just thankful that our team could put everything together with us so we could get this single to this point.
Monts: Yeah we thank God that we have such a dope team! We knew that we had to capture the beauty of the South of France. The partnership of Stefan Wade and Kevin Hudson was amazing! They’ve worked on projects together before and on our other videos so we just knew they would pull this one off!
Get To The Bag was a massive hit for you guys. Do you think St Tropez will be more successful than it?
Monts: Get to the Bag, I think it just reached 100k streams on Spotify alone, yeah that one is doing really well! That song meant a lot so we’re happy that it actually connected to our supporters and listeners. But St Tropez, I personally feel like this could be our biggest song to date.
Jay: Especially on the back of the last single we put out, we just have to make sure we do everything we can as we usually do to make it a success. We know our supporters have our backs and will get the single where it needs to be!
You have now released 7 singles, what are the next steps for Jy Mntl?
Monts: Yeah man 7 singles down! St Tropez is actually a song from an EP we have planned and been working on for a while now. We’re trying to make sure we do everything possible at each stage leading up to it, so it can reach as many people as possible.
Jay: It’s funny that when you’re making music every day and in the studio you can find it hard to choose what to release, but you always get a feeling of what to release and when. We feel like it’s coming up to a perfect moment for us to release a body of work for everyone to hear.
Monts: We can’t wait for our supporters to hear what we’ve been working on, its gonna be a good gift from us to them!
What is your favourite song that you have made?
Jay: Wow. Honestly, that is the hardest question I think I’ve been asked. Every song is a different experience and we have made so many songs over the years. It’s actually funny because there are songs that we’ve started and haven’t finished that have so much potential that would be in the mix to be my favourite. But honestly, that’s a question I can’t answer, each song is created from a different feeling or a different vibe so its impossible to answer.
Monts: Yeah that’s a hard one still, each song is like one of our baby’s and you know what parents say ‘I don’t have favourites’ haha! Our new project tho, I think that its a collection of our favourites from the season we’ve just been through, I can’t wait for the world to hear it!
Have you thought about collaborating with any other artist on your songs? If you could collaborate with anyone, who would that be?
Jay: You know what, we have thought about features but it all depends on timing, and if the song is right for another artist to get involved in. But we definitely want to start doing more features as working with other artists and musicians develop you 100% working with Sk was our first feature and that experience was lit.
Monts: There are so many other talented artists out there, especially with what’s happening in the UK scene right now, it would be dope to start doing more features. We’d love to work with many different artists from Dave, Octavian, Aitch, DBE to Ella Mai, Jorja Smith & Burna Boy. There’s too many to name!
What can we expect to hear from you guys within the next couple of months?
Monts: Within the next couple of months were planning the release of our EP that we’ve been working on for some time now.
Jay: Plus we have been trying to keep it low key but we have some surprise features that we’ve been quietly making too. So we got quite a lot in store in the near future, so just stick close to us, so you won’t miss a thing!
If you could describe St Tropez in 5 words to your fans, what would they be?
Jay: Hmm in 5 words aha that’s a pretty hard one. But I would probably go for “creative, free, adventure, luxurious, vibe” It’s a pretty hard task haha but each of these correlate to the songs experience. Just taking yourself on a luxurious adventure with your day 1s. Leaving your mind free and able to be creative.
Monts: Yeah I agree still, I would also add “Lit” but I’m not sure if that words been added to the dictionary yet haha. But on a real, you know that feeling when you’re on holiday with your friends or family or whoever you enjoy time with the most and you have no worries just living life, that’s exactly what we want everyone to feel when they experience St Tropez.
